SAFE IN THE DANGER ZONE

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“About this time, a man and woman from the tribe of Levi got married. The woman became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She saw that he was a special baby and kept him hidden for three months. But when she could no longer hide him, she got a basket made of papyrus reeds and waterproofed it with tar and pitch. She put the baby in the basket and laid it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile River. The baby’s sister then stood at a distance, watching to see what would happen to him. Soon Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe in the river, and her attendants walked along the riverbank. When the princess saw the basket among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it for her. When the princess opened it, she saw the baby. The little boy was crying, and she felt sorry for him. 'This must be one of the Hebrew children,' she said. Then the baby’s sister approached the princess. 'Should I go and find one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?' she asked. 'Yes, do!' the princess replied. So the girl went and called the baby’s mother.”
Exodus 2:1-8 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Pharaoh had issued a ruthless decree: every male Hebrew newborn was to be drowned in the Nile River. He wanted to systematically crush the growth and strength of the Israelites. But Moses’ mother defied the empire. After hiding her son for three months, she constructed a waterproof basket and placed him among the reeds of the river, while his sister, Miriam, watched from a distance.
In a stunning twist of divine orchestration, Pharaoh’s own daughter came to bathe at that exact spot. She discovered the crying infant, felt a wave of compassion, and chose to rescue him. Then, in an ultimate display of God's sense of humor, Pharaoh’s daughter ended up hiring Moses’ own mother to nurse and care for him.
This short narrative is packed with profound truths about how God operates behind the scenes:
1. Nothing Can Stop God’s Purpose
The greatest forces of earth or hell cannot thwart the plans of God. Pharaoh was the most powerful dictator of his day, yet his decrees were completely powerless against a helpless baby in a wicker basket. When God establishes a calling on your life, no enemy, no supervisor, and no systemic obstacle can block it.
2. God Transforms the Place of Danger into a Place of Deliverance
The Nile River was supposed to be a graveyard for Hebrew boys. Yet, for Moses, that exact same river became the highway to his deliverance. God loves to take the very circumstances designed to destroy you and transform them into the launchpad for your destiny.
3. God Employs Unlikely Allies
God often uses the most unexpected people to accomplish His will. Consider the irony: Moses was hidden by his mother in the river and then hidden by Pharaoh’s daughter inside Pharaoh’s own palace. Moses received the highest Egyptian education, ate the finest food, and lived a life of royalty—all funded by the man who wanted him dead. God’s methods of provision are far beyond what we can ask or imagine.
4. God Plays the Long Game
God starts His work long before we can trace His steps. It would be eighty years before Moses finally stood before Pharaoh to demand Israel's freedom. God was setting the stage nearly a century in advance. Do not be discouraged if your current season feels slow or hidden; God is entirely comfortable working a long-term plan.
Personal Application
As I reflect on this at seventy years old, I am reminded that our perspective is so limited compared to God’s grand design. We often panic over our immediate circumstances, forgetting that God is already orchestrating the next chapter using pieces we can't even see.
I want to live with a deep trust that yields to His timing. Whether you are facing an impossible obstacle, waiting on a long-delayed promise, or feeling like you are in a dangerous position, remember that the Lord is actively managing the details of your life.
Questions for Reflection
God’s Plan: Am I fully yielding to God's direction, or am I trying to force my own way?
My Circumstances: Do I trust that God can turn my current "place of danger" into a place of purpose?
Other People: Am I open to God using unexpected people—even those outside my comfort zone—to bless or guide me?
Timing: Am I willing to be patient and let God play the long game in my life?
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help me to see Your hand moving behind the scenes of my life. Forgive me for the times I panic or grow impatient. I yield to Your perfect timing and Your unpredictable, beautiful ways of working. Give me peace today, knowing what was meant for my harm, You are turning around for my good. Amen.
