A CHOICE MUST BE MADE
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death...
...Therefore, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.”

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Where does our spiritual warfare begin?
To understand the battle raging in our hearts today, we must look back to the very beginning—the Garden of Eden. God created Adam and Eve as two perfect people living in a perfect environment, enjoying an unbroken relationship with Him. There was no sickness, no shame, and no fear. Life was exactly as God intended it to be.
Then, the enemy arrived. Satan's primary objective was to destroy humanity's relationship with God by distorting God's truth.
Here is how the battle lines were drawn:
1. God Gives Us a Choice
God desired a genuine love relationship with humanity, and true love requires free will. It isn't love if it is forced. To give them a choice, God planted a specific tree in the garden and told Adam and Eve not to eat from it, warning them that the consequence of doing so would be death.
Satan immediately stepped in to distort God’s words. He whispered a lie: "You won’t die! You will be like God." He appealed directly to human pride, enticing them to become their own bosses and determine right and wrong for themselves. They looked at the tree, saw that it was pleasing to the eye, and ate. In that exact moment, sin entered the human equation.
2. The Consequence of the Fall
When Adam and Eve opened the door to sin, shame immediately followed. Instead of walking confidently with God, they hid.
Because of that original choice, every human being is now born with a sinful nature—an internal disposition that battles against our desire to please God. Our sin nature tries to make us hide our failures from Him. It wants to trap us in shame, guilt, and condemnation, separating us from the abundant life God created us to live.
3. God’s Mercy and Grace
However, God didn't leave us in hiding. He stepped in with a beautiful plan of redemption. God sacrificed an animal to provide skins to cover Adam and Eve’s physical nakedness.
More importantly, that shed blood served as a temporary cover for their sin. It was a profound foreshadowing of God’s ultimate plan: sending His own Son, Jesus, to be the final, perfect sacrifice for the sins of all humanity.
4. Our Freedom in Christ
Because of Christ's sacrifice on the cross, we can now live with absolutely no condemnation. The moment we surrender to the Lordship of Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes to live inside us, and the ruling power of sin is broken.
Does this mean we will live perfectly? No. It means we live forgiven.
Perfection isn't achieved on this side of eternity, but that is never an excuse to accept or tolerate sin in our lives. When we fail, we quickly confess, repent, and receive God's cleansing grace. The Holy Spirit within us empowers us to win the daily battle over our flesh. We are no longer slaves to sin; we are born-again children of God with a brand-new nature.
Personal Application:
Every single day, we face a choice. Every day there is a battle between the Spirit and the flesh. When we choose to be led by the Spirit, we put the desires of the flesh to death. But the flesh is persistent—it always tries to resurrect itself.
With practice and consistency, this battle gets easier because we become wiser to Satan's tactics. But the fight requires daily vigilance.
Questions to Ponder:
Am I daily preparing myself for the battle? Winning today's battle requires today's preparation. Am I anchoring my mornings in God’s Word, prayer, and worship? Am I surrounding myself with authentic community—believers who will fight alongside me?
Am I tuned into the Holy Spirit's frequency? Discernment is a lifelong quest of developing spiritual ears. Every time you say "yes" to the Prompting of the Spirit, it becomes easier to hear Him next time. Conversely, when we ignore Him, our spiritual hearing becomes dull. What is He prompting you to do today?
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, I want to learn to walk by Your power and not by my own fleshly desires. I acknowledge the areas where I am weak, and I ask You to teach me how to win this internal battle. Give me the ears to hear Your whispers today and give me a heart that immediately responds with a "yes." Amen.
