GOD CAN

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

About this time, a man and woman from the tribe of Levi got married. The woman became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She saw that he was a special baby and kept him hidden for three months. But when she could no longer hide him, she got a basket made of papyrus reeds and waterproofed it with tar and pitch. She put the baby in the basket and laid it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile River. The baby’s sister then stood at a distance, watching to see what would happen to him. Soon Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe in the river, and her attendants walked along the riverbank. When the princess saw the basket among the reeds, she sent her maid to get it for her. When the princess opened it, she saw the baby. The little boy was crying, and she felt sorry for him. “This must be one of the Hebrew children,” she said. Then the baby’s sister approached the princess. “Should I go and find one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?” she asked. “Yes, do!” the princess replied. So the girl went and called the baby’s mother.

TODAY’S THOUGHT

In these few verses we have the story of the birth of Moses. Pharaoh has declared that all male Israelite babies are to be thrown into the Nile River because he wants to stop the growth of the Israelites. Moses’ mother hides him for three months and then puts him in a special basket in the river with his sister to watch over him. It just so happens that Pharaoh’s daughter comes to bathe at that spot in the river and discovers Moses. Moses’ sister offers to get an Israelite woman to feed him. Pharaoh’s daughter winds up paying Moses’ mom to nurse him. There are so many thoughts to gain from this story. First, the greatest forces on earth or hell cannot stop the plan and purposes of God. Pharaoh was the most powerful man in that part of the world. But he could not stop God’s plan of sending a deliverer for the nation of Israel. No one can stop God’s destiny for your life. Only you can destroy God’s plan in your life. Secondly, the place that is supposed to be your place of death can be your place of deliverance. Moses was supposed to die in the Nile, instead the river becomes his place of deliverance. God can turn the worse of circumstances in your favor. Thirdly, God can use unusual people to do His work. Notice that it was the daughter of the man who wanted him dead that raises Moses. Moses was hidden by his mother in the river and then hid by Pharaoh’s daughter in his own palace. Moses got the privilege of learning everything about the Egyptian life and ways of doing things. He got the best education, ate the best food, and lived the best life—all at the expense of the man who wanted him dead. It is impossible for us to fully see how God will work the provision for our destiny. He can do more than we can ask or imagine. Finally, God starts His work long before we see or understand the path. It will be eighty years before Moses becomes a leader for Israel. God starts the plan long before anyone, including Moses, realizes God is working. The plan of God has been working since the beginning of time. Don’t be surprised when suddenly a part of God’s plan reveals itself to you and through you.
