WE GET TO CHOOSE

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home.
Psalms 91:9-10 NLT
TODAY’S THOUIGHT
David repeats for us his opening qualification for this entire psalm — “If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter.” This should cause us to pause and remember the promises of God are always contingent on our decision. We get to decide if we will qualify for His promises.
We qualify not because we are perfect, smart enough, or look good. We qualify because of the choice we make. We make a choice to seek refuge and shelter in the presence of God. We choose that our identity, protection, and provision will be in the Most High.
Because we make that choice, we can then expect the promises of Psalm 91. In verse 10 David shifts from the promises not only impacting our personal life but the promises move to include our home.
I believe this means when we decide to identify as followers of Christ, and we choose to live in alignment with Him we can expect blessings on our children.
Joshua modeled this for us in the Old Testament. He declared to the nation of Israel, “If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, then choose for yourselves today whom you will serve; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).
Joshua believed he had the authority to choose for his family. He believed his choice could impact their blessing.
I don’t believe this means if we serve the Lord our children will automatically serve the Lord. Every person has a free-will as they become adults, and they will have the right to choose for themselves. But we do have the power to plant seed in their life that I believe can lead them back to a relationship with Jesus regardless of where they may roam.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit I choose to be a follower of Jesus. I am not perfect, but I make this choice today and believe that it will impact my children and grandchildren. I believe that my household will be blessed because of Your work in and through our lives.
