CLEAR; PURE; THE MOST DESIRABLE
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
The commandments of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are clear, giving insight for living. Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair. They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb. They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.

TODAY’S THOUGHT
As I write this devotion the price of gold is about $1,935 an ounce. For many people that would take two weeks to get one ounce. Other people make that much a day. David tells us that God’s Word is more desirable than “the finest gold.” David chose to put high value on the Word of God. Perhaps that was why David was so successful in life as a warrior, king, and leader. David reminds us that the Word of God is “clear, giving insight for living.” I’ve heard many people complain that they have trouble understanding the Bible. I will admit there are parts of the Bible that are difficult to understand and require serious study. But for most people the issue is not a lack of understanding as much as a lack of obedience. One man said, “It is not the part of the Bible that I don’t understand that bothers me, it is the part of the Bible I do understand.” Most of us need to simply start obeying the part we do understand. I have discovered when I begin to obey the part of the Bible that I do understand then the Holy Spirit will begin to reveal to me the parts I don’t understand. Why would God give me understanding of something new if I’m not doing what I already know to do? Perhaps we need to ask the Holy Spirit to give us a new hunger for God’s Word. A hunger that drives us to daily interact with God’s Word—not just read it but think on it and apply it to our lives.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit please help me to fall in love and in line with the Word of God. Help me to daily digest Your Word. Help me to obey Your Word and apply it to my life each day.
