LIVE WISELY RATHER THAN FOOLISHLY

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.”

Ephesians 5:15-17 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Paul gives us a blunt warning: “Don’t live like fools.” In a world full of distractions, it is incredibly easy to drift into a foolish life. To guard against this, we must move from living by default to living by design.

1. The "Careful" Audit

Paul tells us to "be careful how you live." This means taking a regular, honest look at our trajectory. Life has a way of getting busy and hectic; if we aren't careful, we wake up and realize ten years have vanished, and the dreams God gave us were left on a shelf.

The Question: Are your relationships, your spiritual journey, and your finances moving in a direction you’ll be proud of five years from now?

2. The "Kairos" Opportunity

Paul says to “make the most of every opportunity.” In the original language, the word for time here is Kairos—it doesn't mean the ticking of a clock, but a strategic season.

Most people miss these strategic moments because they are disguised as hard work or buried under the "noise" of social media. When I coach leaders, I often have them log their time from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM. It is a staggering exercise. We often find that we aren't "too busy"; we are just unprioritized. We are spending our "Kairos" moments on "Chronos" distractions.

3. The Target: Knowing the Will

If you don’t know where you are going, no road will get you there. Living "thoughtlessly" means bouncing from one emergency to the next without a target.

Action is not the same as Progress. You can be very busy but not very productive. Wise living happens when you understand what the Lord wants you to do in this season.

The Challenge: Can you write down in two or three sentences what God’s purpose is for your life right now? Once you define that purpose, your daily decisions become simple. You say "yes" to what moves you toward the target and "no" to what distracts you from it.

This Week’s "Wisdom" Check

  • The Audit: Look at your screen time or your calendar from last week. Does it reflect the "purpose" you believe God has given you?

  • The Move: Identify one "foolish" timewaster and replace it with 15 minutes of quiet reflection on God's "Kairos" for your life.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, help me to understand Your plan for my life during this specific season. Forgive me for living thoughtlessly or letting distractions steal my days. Help me to reflect, examine my progress, and take bold, positive steps toward Your will. Empower me to live wisely today. Amen.
