THE MEASURE OF LIFE’S DIMENSIONS

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“May you have the power to understand... how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully.”

Ephesians 3:18-19 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

What determines your value?

In our culture, we are trained to find self-worth in "The Three P’s": Positions, Power, and Possessions. We feel good when we wear the right clothes, drive the right car, or hit a certain number of "likes" on social media.

The problem with tethering your value to temporary things is that it inevitably leads to anxiety, worry, and depression. If your worth is based on what you do or what you have, you are only ever one bad day away from feeling worthless.

The Four Dimensions of Value

Paul tells us that our "fullness of life" doesn't come from our accomplishments, but from experiencing the dimensions of God’s love. Think about the scale of what he is describing:

  • How Wide: His love is broad enough to include you, regardless of your background.

  • How Long: It started before you were born and will never end.

  • How High: It is love that lifts you out of your circumstances.

  • How Deep: It reached down into the "total mess" of our sins to pull us out.

The Sign of the Cross

When you experience this love, it revolutionizes how you view yourself—and how you view others. You stop looking for a dollar sign on people and start looking for the Sign of the Cross. Jesus’ death and resurrection didn't just provide a way to heaven; it assigned an eternal value to every human being. You are valuable because you were bought with a price. When you realize you are deeply loved by the Creator of the universe, you no longer must "perform" to feel important. You are already "made complete."

Value is Contagious

People can sense when you value them and when you don't. When you find your worth in God’s love, you become a person who can freely give value to others. Meaningful relationships don't start with what someone can do for you; they start when you see them through the lens of the Cross.

5 Truths About My Worth (you might want to copy this for a daily confession)

  1. I am Measured by the Cross: My value is not a dollar sign or a job title; my value is the life of Jesus Christ given for me.

  2. I am Secure in the Dimensions: God’s love is wide enough for my past, long enough for my future, high enough for my dreams, and deep enough for my mess.

  3. I am Not a Project: I am a child to be cherished, not a project to be finished. I don't work for God’s love; I work from it.

  4. I am Complete Right Now: I do not need more "likes," more money, or more success to be "full." I am made complete through the power of the Holy Spirit.

  5. I am a Value-Giver: Because I am fully loved, I am free to see and call out the eternal value in every person I meet today.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, help me to move beyond just "knowing" about Your love to truly experiencing it. Teach me to anchor my self-worth in Your affection rather than my accomplishments. Open my eyes to see the value in every person I meet today, recognizing that they, too, are a masterpiece of Your grace. Amen.
