MORE THAN ENOUGH

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Jesus took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and blessed them. Then, breaking the loaves into pieces, he kept giving the bread to the disciples so they could distribute it to the people. He also divided the fish for everyone to share. They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward, the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftover bread and fish. A total of 5,000 men and their families were fed.

Mark 6:41-44 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Imagine with me this scene. There are about fifteen to twenty thousand people and Jesus has five loaves and two fishes. Jesus tells the disciples to organize the people into groups of fifty and one hundred. Imagine the questions the disciples got as they worked to get the people into groups. Imagine the faith the disciples had to tell the people they were getting ready to serve food. Jesus prays over the fish and loaves and breaks them and starts to hand them out to the disciples. The disciples then start to go from group to group to pass out the food. When they run out, they return to Jesus and get more bread and fish. This was a lot of work. Each disciple had to give food to at least one thousand people. I think they probably went to the first group, gave one person a piece and bread and told them to pass it to the next person. I think the miracle happened that as the people broke off a piece of bread and handed it to the next person there was still the same piece of bread. The miracle happened didn’t happen the moment Jesus prayed. There was not a sudden growth from five loaves to five thousand loaves. The miracle had to happen as the disciples passed out the loaves and fish. As they passed out the food in faithful obedience to Jesus there was a miracle of multiplication. I believe miracles occur in our lives when we give out what we have. When we give our time, talent, and treasure God touches it and turns it into more than what we started. Because of our sin diseased mindset we are often afraid to release what we have. We are afraid we will lose by letting go. But the truth is what we have can only become what it is meant to be by releasing it into the hands of God.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit show me how I can release the time, talent, and treasure You have given to me. Help me to be a part of Your feeding program for my world.
