WE NEED THE RIGHT SHEPHERD

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.”
Psalm 23:1–3 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Like many pastors, I have often read Psalm 23 at funerals as a source of comfort. But this passage isn’t just for times of sorrow—it’s a blueprint for living. David reminds us that God is our Shepherd, and we are His sheep. Jesus echoed this when He declared, “I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.”
Sheep, however, aren’t impressive creatures. In fact, they remind us of our own weakness:
1. Sheep are not self-sufficient.
They cannot provide for themselves. Left alone, they wander and starve.
2. Sheep are defenseless.
They have no claws, fangs, or speed to escape predators. Without a shepherd, they are easy prey.
3. Sheep lose direction easily.
With poor eyesight and no sense of where they’ve been or where they’re going, they simply move from one patch of grass to the next, often getting lost.
But sheep do have one redeeming trait—they know how to recognize their shepherd’s voice. They may be weak, but if they listen, they will be guided, protected, and provided for.
That’s the point: you don’t have to be the strongest, smartest, or most capable to succeed in life. You just need the right Shepherd.
When life throws you off balance, when you feel lost or uncertain, stop trying to figure it all out on your own. Instead, lean in and listen for the voice of your Shepherd. He will lead you to rest, restore your strength, and guide you in the right path for His glory.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, give me ears to hear Your voice and a heart that quickly responds. Lead me into Your peace, provision, and purpose. Amen.
