LIVING LIFE WITH PURPOSE

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better. I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live. Knowing this, I am convinced that I will remain alive so I can continue to help all of you grow and experience the joy of your faith. And when I come to you again, you will have even more reason to take pride in Christ Jesus because of what he is doing through me.

Philippians 1:22-26 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

There are moments when we just want to quit. The struggle of life seems so overwhelming that it would be nice for Jesus to return today, take us all home to heaven, and correct all that is wrong with the world. Paul seems to have reached such a place. While writing from prison he thought his life would be better if he could be with Jesus. At the same time Paul realizes his work on earth is not yet finished. Paul is living life with purpose. When we have a clear purpose in our life, the temporary struggles of earth don’t overwhelm us. The clearer our purpose, the easier it is to endure the sufferings and struggles of daily life. When we lose sight of our purpose, the daily grind will take us under. It is easy to drown in the struggles of life. That is why it is crucial to keep our eyes on the purpose for which God has called us and created us. When we look at Paul’s life, there were multiple times when he spoke about his calling and the purpose of that calling. He obviously kept that narrative running in his head so in the difficult times he could remember why he was doing what he did. Why did God put you on earth? What is your purpose? If you are uncertain of your purpose you will drown in the difficulties of life. The Holy Spirit can help clarify your purpose. Ask for His help. You will need to take time to listen and meditate on that calling.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit help me to know my purpose. Help me see how You have led me, gifted me, and equipped me for my purpose.
