THE ISSUE THAT MATTERS MOST

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“Notice what large letters I use as I write these closing words in my own handwriting.”
Galatians 6:11 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul normally dictated his letters to a scribe, then signed the closing lines with his own hand. But here he draws special attention to the fact that he is personally writing in large letters. Scholars debate whether Paul wrote just this closing section or the entire letter, but the point is clear: Paul wanted the Galatians to feel his urgency.
This was not a casual matter. Paul saw the influence of the Judaizers—those insisting on adding Jewish law to the gospel of grace—as a direct attack on the truth of salvation in Christ. His tone and personal handwriting reveal that he considered this a desperate time. Just as Jesus overturned the tables in the temple, Paul was willing to take strong action for the sake of God’s truth.
There are times in our lives and in the church when silence is not an option. To remain quiet for the sake of being liked or accepted can allow falsehood to spread unchecked. We must be grounded enough in God’s Word that we can discern what is worth contending for.
At the same time, we must not confuse our personal traditions or cultural preferences with the unchanging gospel. Styles of music, forms of worship, and cultural expressions may shift—but the truth of Christ crucified and risen must never be compromised.
So, the questions we must keep before us are:
• Is the true gospel being preached?
• Is Jesus being exalted?
• Are lives being transformed from death to life?
• Is the Spirit free to work in the body of Christ?
• Are we becoming more like Jesus?
These are the issues that matter most.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help me stay focused on Your truth. Shape my life, my family, and my church to reflect Jesus. Give me the wisdom to know when to speak boldly and when to remain silent, and may my voice always defend the gospel of grace.
