A NEW BLOODLINE
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned…
But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins. For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ…
God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul concludes this chapter by contrasting the two most influential figures in human history: Adam and Jesus. He wants us to grasp our complete helplessness apart from God, while celebrating the overwhelming power of divine grace.
1. The Sin Virus
Because of Adam’s initial disobedience in the Garden, a spiritual "sin virus" infected the entire human race. Every person born a descendant of Adam inherits a fallen sin nature.
We don't become sinners merely when we commit our first wrong act; we commit wrong acts because we are born into a fallen condition. Apart from God's intervention, we are completely helpless to fix our own hearts.
2. The Penalty We Earned
Because humanity is trapped in sin, the natural consequence is death—both physical and spiritual separation from God.
It is easy to compare ourselves to others and pretend we are good enough to earn God’s favor. But Paul levels the field once more: on our own merits, every single one of us deserves condemnation. We cannot save ourselves.
3. A Greater Grace and a New Birth
Here is the glorious turning point: God’s grace is far greater than Adam’s sin!
Where sin increased, God’s wonderful grace overflowed all the more. Through Jesus Christ, God offers a gift that cancels our guilt, grants us right standing, and breaks the rule of death over our lives.
The Royal Bloodline Analogy:
Many years ago, Cindy and I had the privilege of visiting London. Cindy has always been fascinated by the British royal family, so we made a point to visit Buckingham Palace.
While we were standing outside, a sudden buzz went through the crowd. We learned that it was the Queen’s birthday and she was about to make an appearance. Sure enough, we stood on the sidewalk as the Queen and the royal family passed by in horse-drawn carriages—an impressive display of wealth, power, and privilege.
As impressive as it was, it was impossible to ignore a simple truth: you cannot earn your way into that royal family. You cannot work hard enough, achieve enough, or try hard enough to become the King or Queen of England. It is entirely a matter of birth and bloodline.
Because we were all born into Adam's fallen bloodline, we could never work our way into the kingdom of God. That is why Jesus said we must be born again (John 3:3).
When we place our faith in Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, the Holy Spirit brings us into a brand-new bloodline. We aren't just forgiven servants; we are adopted as royalty—children of the King and co-heirs with Christ!
Living in Triumph
Through Adam, death reigned over humanity. But through Jesus, grace reigns.
You are no longer a victim of your past or a slave to your old sin nature. Because you belong to the family of God, you have been given the authority to walk in victory over sin and live triumphantly through Jesus Christ.
Reflection & Application
Have you stopped trying to earn your way into God's family? Are you resting in the truth that salvation is a gift received by faith, not a reward earned by human performance?
Are you relying on your new bloodline? When temptation or condemnation comes, do you remind yourself that you are a born-again child of the King?
Is grace ruling your daily life? Are you allowing God's abundant grace to give you confidence, joy, and victory over old habits?
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, open my eyes to comprehend the breathtaking depth of Your grace. Thank You for stepping into my helplessness and rescuing me from the penalty of sin.
Thank You for bringing me out of Adam's fallen legacy and adopting me into Your royal family through the new birth. Help me to stop striving in my own strength and teach me to rest in the finished work of Jesus.
Empower me to walk daily as a child of the King—living in triumph over sin, sharing Your abundant grace with others, and bringing honor to Your royal name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
