RESCUED FROM THE SAND TRAPS

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

For the honor of your name, O Lord, forgive my many, many sins. Who are those who fear the Lord? He will show them the path they should choose. They will live in prosperity, and their children will inherit the land. The Lord is a friend to those who fear him. He teaches them his covenant. My eyes are always on the Lord, for he rescues me from the traps of my enemies

Psalms 25:11-15 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

David is being very transparent in this prayer to His Father God. He recognizes he is not perfect and needs help. David expresses his trust in the forgiveness of God and God’s willingness to guide those who choose to live in obedience to God. David declares that prosperity awaits those who live in obedience. David even says when we follow God’s path God will rescue us from “the traps” of our enemies. I think about this in terms of golf. I enjoy playing golf because it is a moment to focus on a physical activity that gives escape from the mental work I normally do. Like most golfers I often find myself in trouble a few times on the golf course. Last week I was playing with some pastor friends and hit what I thought was a good shot only to discover my ball had rolled into a sand trap in front of the green. It took me two attempts before I made it out of the trap and onto the green. A lot of times I play golf for charity events and usually those are four-man scrambles. That means you have four people on your team and each person hits the ball. Then the team gets to hit their next shot from the best ball that the four hit. This process carries on until the ball is in the hole. In that format if my ball goes into the sand trap, I pick it up and go to one of my partner’s shots. I win a lot of charity events because I choose good partners. People think I am a good golfer but in truth I choose good partners. My partners make me look good. In life we have a partner who wants to keep us out of the traps. He is our Heavenly Father. Through the work of Jesus on the cross God has forgiven our sins and sent us the Holy Spirit to be a daily partner in life. He wants to teach us and guide us so that we can stay out of the traps of life and live in freedom and prosperity. When we allow the Holy Spirit to guide our lives it impacts not only our lives but our children and grandchildren. The Bible says our lives will impact down to four generations. I want the Holy Spirit to keep me out of the sand traps of life.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit today I yield to You. I choose to live in obedience in every area of my life.
