THE ULTIMATE GOAL FOR MY LIFE

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.

Ephesians 4:21-24 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

We were created “to be like God.”

I happen to really feel a sense of pride when someone tells me one of my sons or grandkids reminds them of me. Our Heavenly Father feels the same way when someone says we act like our Heavenly Father.

This entire life on earth is a process of developing us into the image of Christ. It is not one prayer, one good deed, or attending one church service or small group. It is a daily process of development.

God's ultimate goal for our life on earth is not comfort, but character development! Let me repeat that. God’s ultimate goal for my life and your life is not our comfort but our character development.

Character development doesn’t happen in the times when life is perfect. Our character is developed in times of difficulty, pain, disappointment, failure, loss, confusion, frustration, and brokenness. Anyone can be full of love and joy when life is going great with family, friends, and money. But what about when we are alone? What about when we lose our job? What about when our health is gone? What about when others mistreat us?

The difficulty I may be in today is part of what God is going to use to develop His character in my life—if I let Him. Some people allow difficulties to become steppingstones, for others they become roadblocks.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit help me today to see every struggle in my life as a steppingstone to becoming more like You. Help me to allow You to develop the image of Christ in my life.
