WONDERFUL

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
It’s hard to imagine celebrating Christmas without returning to these words from the prophet Isaiah. Penned some 700 years before Jesus’ birth, this prophecy gives us a glimpse of who the Messiah would be. Through the Spirit’s inspiration, Isaiah described Him with titles that reveal His nature and His mission.
The first title is Wonderful.
Wonder surrounded Jesus from the very beginning. Mary was overwhelmed with wonder when the angel announced God’s plan for her life. The people of Bethlehem were filled with wonder as they listened to the shepherds describe what they had seen. Even King Herod found himself stirred by the words of the wise men.
Throughout His ministry, Jesus continued to astonish people with His works—opening blind eyes, cleansing lepers, walking on water, calming storms, multiplying a small meal to feed thousands, and even calling the dead back to life.
And His wonder didn’t end with the pages of Scripture. Many of us can look back and see His wonderful works woven into our own stories. I think of the healing He brought to my body when I was 30, and how He touched our firstborn son when he was only two. Over 43 years of marriage, Cindy and I have witnessed moments of healing, unexpected provision, divine protection, and doors that opened in ways only God could orchestrate.
This Christmas season, we choose to slow down and remember that Jesus is Wonderful. When we welcome Him into our lives, He brings the wonder of His presence. There will always be things about Him beyond our understanding—because He is more marvelous than our minds can grasp.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help me pause in the busyness of this season and remember the wonder of Jesus. Fill my heart with awe again. Help me share that sense of wonder with others this Christmas season.
