THE POWER PRAYER

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him.”
Ephesians 1:16-19 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Years ago, I was challenged to stop "suggesting" things to God and start praying the actual prayers of the Bible. There is weight and authority in Scripture that our own words often lack.
In Ephesians 1, Paul offers a masterclass in intercession. He doesn't pray for the Ephesians' circumstances to change; he prays for their perspective to change. He asks God to open their eyes to three life-altering realities.
1. God’s Purpose (Spiritual Wisdom)
Paul asks for "spiritual wisdom and insight" so that we might grow in our knowledge of God. Confusion is a sign of a "dimly lit" heart. When we know God deeply, we don't have to guess at our purpose. The closer you get to the Creator, the clearer the "blueprints" for your life become.
2. God’s Provision (The Riches of the Inheritance)
Paul prays that your heart would be "flooded with light" to see the riches of God's inheritance. Many of us live like spiritual orphans, begging for crumbs when we are heirs to the Kingdom. God hasn't just called you; He has endowed you. He has promised to supply all your needs—not based on your bank account, but according to His riches in glory.
3. God’s Power (The Resurrection Standard)
This is where most of us stop short. Paul prays we would understand the "incredible greatness of God’s power." We often settle for a "watered-down" faith. We believe God can forgive our sins (the past), but we aren't sure He can heal our bodies, break our addictions, or restore our broken relationships (the present). Paul reminds us that the power available to you today is the same mighty power that ripped Christ out of the grave.
The Daily Challenge
What would happen if you stopped praying for "easier days" and started praying for a "flooded heart"?
Take these verses and pray them over your spouse, your children, and yourself every morning for the rest of this week. Don't just read the words—activate them.
TODAY’S PRAYER
"Father, I thank You for my family. Today, I ask You to give us spiritual wisdom and insight. Flood our hearts with light! Let us see the hope of our calling, the riches of our inheritance, and the incredible greatness of Your power working in us. Let the same power that raised Jesus from the dead move in our home today. Amen."
