GOD HAS A PLAN FOR EACH OF US
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.
Philippians 1:6 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
It was almost 50 years ago that this verse became one of my life verses. I was a freshman in Bible school preparing to be in ministry and suffered a major set-back. I was told that I was wasting my time taking voice lessons because I just had no talent. I desperately wanted to have some musical talent because it seemed everyone else in ministry was so talented.
I spent one afternoon crying in the prayer room in our dorm building. I was angry at God for not giving me any talent. Then the Holy Spirit spoke this passage into my spirit. All I got was Philippians 1:6. I had no idea what that passage said. I had to leave the dark prayer room and go to my dorm room to get a Bible and look up this passage.
When I read about God “who began a good work within you” I said out loud, “this doesn’t apply to me because God hasn’t started anything in me. That’s when the still, small voice of the Spirit said, “Darius, I didn’t create you to be a musician or singer, I created you to be a pastor.”
I wanted to be a Christian musician and singer. God wanted me to be a pastor. God had been working all my life to prepare me to be a pastor. God was going to continue to work in me if I would give Him a chance.
That day I wrote this verse on a card. I carried that card for years. When I would feel defeated, unworthy, or incapable I would read the card. (By the way, it was the King James Version— “being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”)
The greatest gift we can give ourselves and our children and grandchildren is the confidence that God is working in them. God has a plan for our lives. God wants to work His plan in our lives. We must be willing to yield to God’s plan and amazing things will happen.
God’s plan was much better than mine! His plan for you is much better than your plan.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit please help me to see Your plan for my life. Help me to confidently accept Your plan and trust You to bring it to pass. You are working something good in me.
