BREAKING THE WALL OF HOSTILITY

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us.”

Ephesians 2:14 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Paul is describing a miracle that was, in his day, socially impossible. Jews and Gentiles were historically, culturally, and religiously opposed to each other. They didn't just have "differences"; they had a wall of hostility. But Paul declares that Jesus didn’t just offer a compromise or a treaty—He performed a demolition. By His blood, He took two separate, warring groups and created "one new people."

The Azusa Street Blueprint

History shows us that whenever the Holy Spirit truly moves, walls begin to crumble. In the early 1900s, the Azusa Street Revival in Los Angeles became a global phenomenon. Led by William Seymour, a Black minister, this movement started in a converted horse stable.

While the miracles and healings drew headlines, the most shocking part to the secular press was the unity. During a time of intense racial segregation in America, Black, White, Hispanic, and Asian believers were all worshipping in the same room. Seymour famously said, "The blood of Jesus washes away all skin color."

He didn't mean that identity disappeared, but that the hostility attached to it was put to death. The world took notice because they saw something that no government program or policy could achieve, genuine, heart-level reconciliation.

The Challenge of Current Statistics

We still have work to do. Even today, the "Sunday Morning Gap" remains one of the most visible walls.

  • Church Segregation: According to recent data, approximately 80% of American congregations are still made up of one predominant racial group (where at least 80% of the members are of the same race).

  • Global Vision: Revelation 7:9 promises a Heaven where people from every tribe, language, and nation stand together.

If that is the reality of our future home, why would we wait until we die to experience it? Peace for humanity doesn't start at the ballot box; it starts at the Foot of the Cross.

Becoming a Peace-Maker

What if we prayed for the "Azusa Spirit" to return? What if we refused to let political or social divisions dictate who we love and worship with? Jesus didn't just come to get you into Heaven; He came to get the "One New People" of Heaven into the world today. We are called to be bridge-builders who prove that the wall is truly down.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, I ask for the same revival of unity that was seen at Azusa Street. Forgive me for any prejudice or judgmental attitudes I have carried. Show me how to be a peacemaker in my church, my neighborhood, and my country. Let Your Kingdom come on earth—starting in my heart. Amen.
