YIELD NOT TO TEMPTATION
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
Matthew 6:13 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
In Jesus’ model prayer He encourages us to deal with the issue of temptation in our lives. Regardless of how long we have been a follower of Christ the devil loves to bring temptation into our lives. James tells us in his book in the New Testament that temptation never comes from God but is the result of our own desires. Satan uses our desires to drag us away from God’s path and into sin. The desire is not sin. But Satan knows he can try to get us to fulfill good desires in a bad way. For instance, the desire for food is healthy, but if it is misused, we can become gluttons and destroy the health of our bodies. The desire for sex is given by God to be fulfilled in the protection of a marriage covenant. However, Satan can get us to try to fulfill that desire through fornication, pornography, or adultery. We must realize that temptation is real. But we have a promise that there is no temptation we can’t withstand. Paul reminds us to be aware that temptation is real in 1 Corinthians 10, “If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” (I Cor 10:12-13, NLT) Every day we need to ask for help to resist the temptation that our flesh and Satan will try to bring into our lives. We need to be aware of our weakness and make no room for sin. Be wise. If you struggle with alcohol don’t go to the bar. If you struggle with pornography stay away from computers when you are alone. Don’t give the devil room for temptation.
