MERCY THAT IS FRESH EACH DAY

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Let’s look closer at the mercy of God. Our text reveals two life-changing truths: His mercies never cease, and they are new every single morning.
Understanding the Difference: Grace vs. Mercy
While we often use these words interchangeably, they represent two different sides of God’s heart toward us:
Grace is when God gives us what we don’t deserve. Forgiveness, favor, and blessings are acts of grace. We can’t earn them; they are gifts of His love.
Mercy is when God doesn’t give us what we do deserve. Because of sin, we deserve judgment, but God’s mercy withholds it. Mercy is like being pulled over for speeding and receiving a warning instead of a ticket.
An Unlimited Supply
The Bible says God’s mercy never ceases. This means we can never exhaust it. You can't "drain" the mercy of God. There is no point where He says, "I gave you mercy yesterday, why should I give you more today?" Instead, God chooses to wipe the slate clean. Every sunrise is a signal that His mercy has started fresh just for you.
Racham: Love from the Womb
The Hebrew word used for "mercies" in this passage is Racham. This is a beautiful, deeply emotional word. Its root noun means "womb."
When the Bible speaks of God's mercies, it is literally describing a "womb-like love." Think of the instinctive, fierce love a mother has for the baby in her womb. She carries that child, protects it, and prefers that baby’s comfort and safety over her own.
Our Heavenly Father has that kind of protective, nurturing love for you. He isn't just "tolerating" you; He is caring for you with the tenderness of a parent for their child.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help me to truly grasp the depth of the mercy You offer me today. Thank You for starting fresh with me this morning. Help me to live in a way that honors Your great faithfulness and reflects Your mercy to others. Amen.
