CHRIST IS SUFFICIENT!

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven… Therefore, angels are only servants—spirits sent to care for people who will inherit salvation.”

Hebrews 1:1–3, 14 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

The book of Hebrews was written to believers who were tired. They loved Jesus, but they were under pressure—opposition from the culture around them, rejection from former friends, and growing uncertainty about the cost of following Christ. Some were tempted to drift back into what felt familiar and safe.

The writer of Hebrews does not begin with commands or corrections. He begins with Jesus.

He reminds the people that God has always been a speaking God. In the past, God spoke through prophets, visions, and signs. But now, God has spoken in the clearest and most complete way possible—through His Son. If we want to know what God is like, we look at Jesus. There is no clearer word coming.

Jesus is not merely a messenger from God; He is God in the flesh. He existed before creation, participated in creation, and even now sustains all things by His powerful word. Everything we see and everything we depend on continues because Christ holds it together.

When Jesus walked the earth, He revealed the glory of God and the heart of God. His compassion, His holiness, His authority, and His mercy show us exactly what the Father is like.

And then the writer points us to the heart of the gospel: Jesus cleansed us from our sins. He did what we could never do for ourselves. Through His death and resurrection, our guilt is removed, our freedom is secured, and our relationship with God is restored. Having completed His saving work, Jesus sat down at the right hand of the Father—a picture of victory, authority, and finished work.

Hebrews also gently reminds us that God has not left us unsupported on this journey. Angels are described as servants, sent by God to care for those who will inherit salvation. Though we may not see their work, God’s care for His people is constant and intentional.

We are never as alone or as vulnerable as we sometimes feel.

We live by the finished work of Jesus, sustained by His power. We are helped by the unseen ministry of God’s angels. And we are guided daily by the Holy Spirit, who lives within us to teach, convict, and lead us into truth.

As we step forward into a new year, let us do so with steady faith—not because life will be easy, but because Christ is sufficient in every situation. Let us lean fully into what God has already provided and walk with confidence in His care.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, help me to remember who Jesus is and all that He has done for me. Teach me to rest in His finished work, to trust in Your constant care, and to follow Your gentle leading each day. Amen.
