LIVE IN STEP WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished. So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak? And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.”
Hebrews 2:1–4 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
There is a great deal packed into this warning and invitation from Hebrews chapter two.
1. Faith Drifts Without Careful Attention
Following Jesus is far more than praying a one-time prayer or filling out a response card. It is a daily choice to open our hearts and minds to the truth God reveals through His Word. Scripture warns us that drifting does not happen suddenly—it happens quietly, gradually, and often unintentionally.
If we are not regularly anchoring ourselves in God’s truth, we will slowly drift from truth into error. The voices of the world are many, loud, and often confusing. Without discernment, we can begin to accept ideas that sound spiritual but are not rooted in Scripture.
This is why followers of Jesus must commit themselves to faithfully reading the Bible. We also need the discipline of corporate worship and the encouragement of small group Bible study. These practices help keep our faith grounded and our direction clear.
2. The Gospel Is More Than Information
The Good News of Jesus’ death and resurrection is not merely a theological concept to be understood—it is a living reality to be experienced. Hebrews reminds us that God confirmed the gospel not only with words, but with signs, wonders, miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit.
There should be aspects of our lives that cannot be explained apart from the supernatural work of God. Faith that is only intellectual will remain incomplete. God desires both a rooted understanding of truth and a living, Spirit-empowered faith.
As Spirit-filled followers of Jesus, we should pray for and expect the Holy Spirit to work in and through our lives. This is not limited to a church service. The Spirit often moves in ordinary, everyday moments—conversations, relationships, and quiet acts of obedience.
There have been moments in a simple gym conversation when I sensed the Holy Spirit prompt me to speak a word of encouragement or insight. No spotlight. No fanfare. Just an ordinary moment suddenly touched by the presence of God.
Let’s believe for what only God can do. Let’s pray not only to know the truth, but to live in step with the Spirit. And let’s prepare our hearts for the supernatural work of God to flow through our lives in ways that point people to Jesus.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, I want my life to be firmly grounded in Your truth through the Word of God. Help me to be a faithful student of Scripture. At the same time, teach me to walk as a Spirit-led follower of Jesus. With the foundation of Your Word beneath me, make me sensitive to Your leading. Give me the courage to obey You daily and to trust You to work through my life for Your glory. Amen.
