TO HONOR THE LORD
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
For we don’t live for ourselves or die for ourselves. If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.
Romans 14:7-8 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
True victory in the kingdom of God comes through death. We die to ourselves to come fully alive in Christ. Surrender is the path to victory.
If we live for ourselves, we will struggle with temptations and frustrations. Our human nature is selfish and wants what it wants. Only by choosing to surrender our selfish desires can we truly be free from the bondage of the flesh.
I remember the W.W.J.D. (What Would Jesus Do) bracelets. They were a craze for a while and helped people to think about what Jesus would do in each situation of life. Jesus did everything to honor the Father—not to attract attention to Himself or build His following. He knew that He was destined to die for the sins of the world.
In His flesh, Jesus struggled with the surrender to the will of the Father. In the garden He prayed asking the Father if there was any other way. But in the conclusion of His prayer Jesus said, “But not my will but Your will be done.”
If we are followers of Jesus, we should have that same prayer. “Not my will but Your will.” Not what I want but what You want. This is how we honor God.
Is there any area of your life that you need to surrender to the Lordship of Jesus? Any area that is not honoring to God?
