LOVE, TIME, AND GOD

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.”

Psalms 91:14 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Let’s focus today on the first part of this passage, “I will rescue those who love me.”

What does it mean to love God?

In our culture we love baseball, apple pie, and mom. It is a word we throw around often and easily. When we love something or someone, we take time for that activity or person.

Love is often spelled TIME. Where we spend our time translates into what we really love. We may say we love our family but then spend all our free time playing golf, watching TV, or going out with our girlfriends.

We can claim to love God but then we don’t have time to join in a small group of other believers to study His Word and pray together. Or we are too busy to even join a weekly worship gathering with the family of God. It is easy to claim to love God and yet never spend time in His Word or prayer.

I think about this question, “How strong would my marriage be if I spent as much time talking to my spouse as I do God?” Would my spouse be happy with five minutes a day and 90 minutes once a week?

The promises that God gives to us in Psalm 91 apply to those who love Him. Those who love Him have chosen to abide in His presence. To love God is to obey His commands and spend time with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit help me to daily express my love for you by the time I spend with You. Give me a greater desire to love You. Help me to get my priorities straight.
