PROTECTED THROUGH THE AUTHORITY OF JESUS’ NAME

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name.”

Psalms 91:14 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

We have already spent two days on this one verse. We talked about what it means to love God, and then we talked about the first of the seven promises associated with those who choose to love God—they will be delivered or rescued.

Today let’s focus on the promise of protection to “those who trust in my name.” Multiple times in this psalm God declares protection for His children. In verse one God promises rest to those who chose to live in the shelter of the Most High. In verse two David declares God is our “place of safety.” In verse three David says God will “protect you from deadly disease.”

In verse four David tells us His promises “are your armor and protection.” In verse eleven we are told “He will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.”

Now David says God will “protect those who trust in my name.” The indication there is something powerful about the name of God.

Throughout scripture God chose to reveal His character and personality to the children of Israel by giving Himself certain names. He shows Himself as Jehovah Rapha—the Lord Who heals us. As Jehovah Jireh—the Lord is our provider. As Jehovah Shalom—the Lord our peace.

In the New Testament Paul writes in Ephesians 1:20-21; 2:6–“…which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the one to come… and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus.”

Jesus is the name that is above every name. God has exalted His name and has raised us up with Him and seated us with Him the heavenly places.

When we recognize the name of Jesus, we understand we have authority through His name. We can trust in the name of Jesus. As followers of Christ, we have been given authority over anything that comes against us. There is protection in the name of Jesus.

TODAY’S PRAYER

In Jesus name I declare that no weapon formed against me will prosper. I will be protected through the authority of Jesus’ name.
