LOVE & HOLINESS CONNECTION

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“May God our Father and our Lord Jesus bring us to you very soon. And may the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and overflow, just as our love for you overflows. May he, as a result, make your hearts strong, blameless, and holy as you stand before God our Father when our Lord Jesus comes again with all his holy people. Amen.”
1 Thessalonians 3:11-13 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Paul writes a short prayer of blessing for the Thessalonians. In just three verses, he defines what a healthy, growing Christian life looks like. It isn't found in isolation, and it isn't found in a list of rules.
1. The End of the "Lone Ranger" Faith
Paul’s first request is to simply be with them. He understood that people are our most valuable assets. God never called any of us to be "Lone Rangers." We are called to be the "Family of God" and the "Body of Christ." These aren't just poetic terms; they are descriptions of a life that is intimately and physically connected to others. You cannot fulfill your purpose in a vacuum.
2. Love Without Borders
Paul prays for their love to "grow and overflow." Notice the scope of this love: it starts with "one another" (fellow believers) but it doesn't stop there. It overflows to "all people." If we truly love God, it should be evident in the way we treat humanity. Even people who think, act, or vote differently than we do should be able to sense an overflow of love from our lives.
3. Holiness is a Heart Issue
This is where Paul makes a connection that often surprises people: Love is what makes our hearts "strong, blameless, and holy." In my early years, the people who claimed to be the most "holy" often seemed to have the least amount of love. They were judgmental, angry, and critical.
Paul, once a Pharisee himself, knew the danger of outward "holiness" that lacked inward love. Jesus called those leaders "whitewashed tombs"—beautiful on the outside, but full of death on the inside. Real holiness isn't about a list of "don'ts"; it’s about an inner transformation that pours out love. As Jesus taught, the entire law is summed up in two things: Love God and love your neighbor.
Today’s Reflection
Love Audit: Is your love "overflowing" to all people, or is it reserved only for those who are easy to love?
Pharisee Check: Have you allowed a judgmental or critical spirit to creep in under the guise of "being holy"?
Mission: Who in your world is the "hardest" to love right now? How can you show them a small act of kindness today to demonstrate God’s overflow?
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, please help me to be a living demonstration of Your love. Open my eyes to those who need a touch of grace today. Forgive me for the times I have been judgmental or critical and transform my heart so that my holiness is defined by my love for You and for others. Amen.
