THE GLORY OF CHRIST AT WORK THROUGH US

TODAY’’S SCRIPTURE
“I am glad when I suffer for you in my body, for I am participating in the sufferings of Christ that continue for his body, the church. God has given me the responsibility of serving his church by proclaiming his entire message to you. This message was kept secret for centuries and generations past, but now it has been revealed to God’s people. For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory. So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. That’s why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ’s mighty power that works within me.”
Colossians 1:24–29 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
This section opens with a remarkable statement: “I am glad when I suffer for you in my body.” Paul is writing from prison, yet instead of complaining, he rejoices. Why? Because his suffering is not wasted—it serves the purpose of building up the body of Christ, the Church.
Some questioned Paul’s authority because of his imprisonment, but Paul uses his suffering to point to his deep participation in Christ’s mission. He considers it an honor to endure hardship if it means others can receive the message of the gospel.
Paul explains that the message he proclaims—the full gospel—was a mystery hidden for generations. That mystery is now revealed: Christ lives in you. This is the heart of the gospel. Not only are we forgiven and promised heaven, but we are indwelt by Christ through the Holy Spirit. His presence within us is the source of our hope, strength, and transformation.
Paul emphasizes that this message isn’t just for the Jews, but for the Gentiles as well. In Christ, all barriers are removed—Jew or Gentile, male or female—we are all equal recipients of God’s grace (Galatians 3:28). Every promise given to Abraham now extends to all who place their faith in Jesus. We become heirs to the covenant, the promise, and the glory.
This glory isn’t just for eternity; it’s for today. God’s glory—His character, presence, and power—dwells in us through the Holy Spirit. That means we carry His presence into every situation, every conversation, every need.
I was reminded of this truth just yesterday. A friend texted me in distress: her mother had collapsed and was rushed to the hospital unresponsive. Doctors feared a brain aneurysm. I immediately called and prayed with her, asking for God’s peace, healing, and wisdom. Just 30 minutes later, she called back—her mother had regained consciousness, was speaking clearly, and tests showed no aneurysm or damage. She was released shortly after.
That moment was not about me—it was about Christ in me. The same presence that raised Jesus from the dead was released into that situation through simple, faith-filled prayer.
We all have moments when someone else’s words, encouragement, or presence have lifted us. These moments are not coincidences—they are the glory of Christ at work through His people.
Paul ends this section by sharing the passion behind his ministry. He works and struggles “depending on Christ’s mighty power that works within me.” That same power is available to you. You don’t have to be a pastor or missionary to carry God’s presence. You simply need to be willing and aware that Christ lives in you.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help me to recognize that Your glory dwells within me. Teach me to release Your presence into the lives of those around me. Make me sensitive to Your timing and Your voice. Use me to bring encouragement, healing, and hope to those in need. Amen.
