THE SOURCE OF ALL COMFORT

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others.”
2 Corinthians 1:3–4 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Imagine scrolling through social media and seeing a post about some terrible injustice. You feel angry, so you share the post and add your own comments about how awful the situation is and how people need to act.
You feel like you’ve done something—but have you?
No conversations were had. No hands were lifted. No lives were touched. You just reposted someone else’s outrage.
There’s a name for this: slacktivism—when we support causes online with minimal effort, without real action or sacrifice. It feels good, but it doesn’t change much.
Paul tells us in today’s scripture that God comforts us so that we can comfort others. That’s an invitation to act, not just react. Comfort isn’t meant to stop with us—it’s meant to flow through us.
God has always worked this way. In Genesis, He blessed Abraham so Abraham could be a blessing to others. That same principle still applies: God blesses and comforts us, so we can turn around and do the same for someone else.
Earlier this week, I wasn’t having the best day—tired, frustrated, and just trying to get through. On the way to the gym, I whispered a prayer, asking God to guide me even in the small things. I ended up going to a restaurant I’d never been to before.
The lady at the register looked tired, and when I asked how her day was going, she said, “Not very good.”
That moment opened the door to a meaningful conversation. I offered to pray with her. Nothing flashy or dramatic—just a few moments of comfort and a reminder that God sees her.
She may not remember my name. But I hope she remembers that God showed up.
Who could you offer comfort to today?
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help me to see people the way You see them. Keep me from settling for surface-level responses. Give me the courage to step into someone’s pain and be Your hands and heart. Help me be more than a post—help me be present. Amen.
