ALERT AND THANKFUL
TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.
Colossians 4:2 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Lately God has been stirring in my spirit the importance of cumulative action. It is not the one trip to the gym that changes our lives--it is the consistent pattern of good exercise over an extended period. It is not the one romantic evening that makes a marriage--it is a lifetime of devotion to each other that shows itself in the little and big things that makes a relationship thrive. This law applies to our physical bodies, our relationships, our finances, our mental growth, and our spiritual lives. When we devote ourselves to prayer, we develop a pattern of connecting with God daily that has a cumulative effect on who we are and what we do. This opens the door for the Holy Spirit to move us in directions that may seem insignificant now, but over an extended period it will radically shapes our lives. Devotion to prayer moves us to be alert and thankful. We become aware of things we would otherwise miss, and we realize the blessings of God that we sometimes take for granted. Prayer should always include a time of giving God thanks for His blessings on our lives. We grow in our thankfulness when we spend time with God.
