GOD’S WORD TEACHES ABOUT “WORDS"

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“Kind words are like honey—sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.”
Proverbs 16:24 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Words have incredible power. Let’s pause and reflect on what Scripture teaches us about them.
1. Words Spoken Can’t Be Unspoken
Once words leave our mouths, they can’t be taken back. They’re like toothpaste squeezed from a tube—easy to get out, impossible to put back in.
This is why the Bible cautions us about speaking hastily (Proverbs 29:20; Ecclesiastes 5:2; James 1:19). We should always practice pausing before we speak—especially when we’re angry or upset. A moment of patience can prevent a lifetime of regret.
2. Words Carry the Power of Life and Death
Proverbs 18:21 tells us that “life and death are in the power of the tongue.” God created the universe through the power of His spoken word, and He has entrusted us with that same creative ability.
Our words can build up or tear down. They can heal or they can hurt. Every sentence we speak carries weight and potential—so we must choose life-giving words.
3. Words Sink Deep
In today’s verse, Solomon mentions both the soul and the body. The soul represents our inner being—our mind, will, and emotions.
Kind words reach deep into that inner place, bringing comfort, peace, and joy. But the verse also reminds us that words affect our physical well-being. Harsh words can create stress and even impact our health. Loving, gentle words can bring calm and healing.
Thought for Today
Who around you need healing today? What words can you speak that might restore someone’s spirit?
Just this week, I received messages from two men I haven’t seen in years. Each sent kind, uplifting words that brought tears to my eyes. Those simple messages became gifts—refreshing both my soul and my body.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help my words to be words of life. Show me the people around me who need kind and healing words. Help me not to be quick to speak, but to let You guide my words, so they bring sweetness and healing to others.
