PRAISE THE LORD

ree

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Praise the Lord! How good to sing praises to our God! How delightful and how fitting! The Lord is rebuilding Jerusalem and bringing the exiles back to Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds. He counts the stars and calls them all by name. How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension! The Lord supports the humble, but he brings the wicked down into the dust.”

Psalm 147:1–6 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

David begins this psalm with a simple command: “Praise the Lord!” Then he tells us why it’s both delightful and fitting to do so—because of who God is and what He does.

Here are four reasons David gives us to lift our praise to God:

1. God Restores

“The Lord is rebuilding Jerusalem and bringing the exiles back to Israel.”

Our God is a restorer. What has been torn down, He rebuilds. What has been scattered, He gathers back together.

When a marriage is broken God can rebuild.

When health fails—God can restore.

When finances collapse—God can renew.

He takes what’s in ruins and makes it whole again. Nothing in your life is too far gone for His restoring hand.

2. God Heals

“He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.”

God doesn’t just fix situations—He heals people. When our hearts are shattered by betrayal or loss, He gently binds up our wounds. When we grieve, when we’re depressed, when we’ve been mistreated—He draws near with healing in His hands.

He is the Great Physician, not only of our bodies but of our souls.

3. God Is in Charge

“He counts the stars and calls them all by name. How great is our Lord! His power is absolute! His understanding is beyond comprehension!”

The God who knows every star by name knows you by name too. His power is limitless—there is nothing too hard for Him (Ephesians 3:20). His wisdom is perfect—He is never confused, surprised, or uncertain (Isaiah 55:8–9).

We can rest in His authority because He reigns with both power and understanding. We may not always know what He’s doing, but we can always trust who He is.

4. God Supports the Humble

“The Lord supports the humble, but he brings the wicked down into the dust.”

Throughout Scripture, this truth echoes again and again: God lifts up the humble and resists the proud.

Pride says, “I can handle it on my own.”

Humility says, “Lord, I need You.”

When we humble ourselves before God, He steps in with strength and favor. But when we look down on others or act in arrogance, we find ourselves pushing against the very hand that wants to help us.

Pause and Praise

Take a moment to reflect—how has God restored, healed, led, or supported you? Praise Him for what He has done. Praise Him for who He is. And let your praise remind you that your life is in His hands.

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Heavenly Father, I praise You for who You are and for all You’ve done in my life. Thank You for the times You have restored what was broken and healed what was hurting. Thank You for being in control when I cannot see the way forward. You are the Lord God Almighty—nothing is too hard for You. I humble myself before You today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
