WHEN YOU TRUST IN THE LORD

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“I am teaching you today—yes, you—so you will trust in the Lord.”
Proverbs 22:19 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Solomon explains tthe purpose behind his wisdom writings—so that we will trust in the Lord.
This theme runs throughout Scripture. In Psalm 20:7 (NLT) we read, “Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.” Some translations use the word trust instead of boast, which may capture the true intent of the verse more clearly. The next verse continues, “Those nations will fall down and collapse, but we will rise up and stand firm.” (Psalm 20:8, NLT)
The message is unmistakable—real strength comes from trusting in God, not in human resources like military power, financial security, or intellectual ability.
Jeremiah echoes this same truth: “Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.” (Jeremiah 17:7, NLT) He goes on to describe the result of such trust: “They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:8, NLT)
When we trust in the Lord, we are anchored and fruitful no matter what comes our way. Our confidence doesn’t depend on circumstances—it flows from our connection to Him.
One of the clearest signs that we’re not trusting is anxiety. When anxiety rises, trust tends to fall. But when trust in God grows, anxiety loses its grip.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help me to trust You more deeply. Teach me to rest in the promises of Your Word so my confidence will stay rooted in You. Make me like that tree planted by the riverbank—strong, steady, and fruitful through every season.
