AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE LORD

ree

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.”

Proverbs 31:8–9 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Being a follower of Jesus is more than attending church services or participating in Bible studies. We are called to be light in a dark world—God’s representatives of truth, love, and justice.

God has a special heart for those who are victims of poverty, abuse, and exploitation. As His followers, it’s our responsibility to “speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves.”

One powerful way to live this out is by standing up for unborn children. We must be advocates for life—speaking against abortion while also offering compassion and tangible help to mothers. This is why we personally support local pregnancy centers that provide hope-filled alternatives, and why our church’s Embrace Grace ministry walks alongside moms who choose life.

We also support foster and adoption programs. It’s not enough to only be against abortion—we must also be for life in every form, offering grace, love, and practical help.

Another group close to God’s heart are those trapped in sex trafficking. Cindy and I have heard firsthand the heartbreaking stories of women rescued from this horror. Their pain is unimaginable, and their courage is inspiring. That’s why we support Project Rescue and Alive at Last, ministries bringing healing and freedom to those enslaved by exploitation.

We also partner with local food banks, Convoy of Hope, and community feeding programs to care for the poor and hungry. As we approach the holidays, our church is organizing outreaches to provide Thanksgiving meals and Christmas gifts for underprivileged children.

I have the privilege of serving on the board of Pleasant Hills Children’s Home, which provides a safe haven for about 40 children across Texas. In addition, our church recently launched a monthly ministry for widows and widowers—offering food, fellowship, and community.

James 1:27 (ESV) reminds us:

“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction…”

I share these examples not to boast, but to remind us that opportunities to “speak up” and serve are everywhere. In every community, there are needs waiting for someone to notice and care. As followers of Christ, we have no excuse not to act.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, open our eyes to see the needs around us. Forgive us for being indifferent or distracted. Empower us to use our time, talent, and treasure to bring hope and healing to those who are hurting. Help us be Your voice and Your hands in this world. Amen.
