“OUR FATHER” KNOWS WHAT IS BEST FOR US

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.

Matthew 7:9-11 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

There is no such thing as a perfect parent on this earth. Every parent makes mistakes because we are human and have a sin nature that is selfish. Yet, most of us as parents want the best for our children. We are willing to make personal sacrifices for the sake of our children.

When my child or grandchild succeeds, I am filled with a tremendous sense of joy. My joy at watching them succeed exceeds any joy I may feel for my personal success.

We need to realize that our Heavenly Father loves us far more than our earthly parents. He loves us more than we can ever love our children. He wants to give “good gifts” to His children. The requirement is that we “ask Him.”

Asking God for help means we acknowledge our limitations and weaknesses. It means we lean into His strength and resources. It means we humbly ask for His direction, provision, cleansing, and correcting.

We can’t ask for God’s direction and provision if we aren’t willing to ask for God’s correction. A heart that is after God doesn’t ask selfish prayers. We ask for things so that we can grow and become more like Jesus. We ask so that we can be more effective in advancing His kingdom in our world.

When we ask with the right motivation, we can expect our loving Heavenly Father to respond. Because He loves us, sometimes He may not answer our prayers the way we think is best. That is because our Father really does know best. He knows what is best in every area of our lives. He wants the best for us.

We sometimes think we know what is best because we have a limited view of life. We can’t see the future. God sees what is ahead and knows the consequences associated with certain choices and behavior. Therefore, we must trust that when we ask God for something He will respond to that request in a manner that He knows is best.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father please help me to trust Your wisdom. Help me to ask for the right things in the right way. Help me to humbly seek Your wisdom and kingdom.

Reminds me of the numerous Bible verse when it says we should ask accordingly. God’s way is always better .
