PUT YOUR TRUST IN THE LORD

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord.”
Psalm 40:1–3 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever felt completely alone or forgotten?
I remember once as a kid going shopping with my mom in a large department store. At some point, I wandered off while she was looking at something—and before I knew it, I was lost. I still remember the panic that filled my heart and the tears that started to fall.
A kind store employee found me, comforted me, and began searching for my mom. When my mom realized I was missing, she was in full panic mode. But when she saw me from a distance, she came running. We both cried and hugged tightly when we were finally reunited.
That picture always comes to mind when I read Psalm 40. David knew what it felt like to be stuck, desperate, and afraid. But when he cried out, God turned toward him and rescued him.
And just like that story from my childhood, God doesn’t stand far off when we’re lost—He comes running toward us.
1. He Lifts Us Up
God doesn’t come to push us down—He comes to lift us up. He sees when we’re “stuck in the mud” of depression, defeat, or discouragement. He hears our cries of regret and fear.
When we can’t pull ourselves out, the Holy Spirit comes with peace, love, and strength to lift us back up. God doesn’t ignore our pain—He steps into it.
2. He Sets Us on Solid Ground
Once God lifts us out, He doesn’t just leave us standing on shaky legs. He sets us on solid ground and steadies us as we begin to walk again.
It’s like a parent helping a toddler take their first steps—always close, always ready to catch them if they stumble. God doesn’t scold us for falling. He celebrates every step we take toward Him.
3. He Gives Us a Song to Sing
And when we experience His rescue, something happens inside us—He gives us a new song to sing. That’s the sound of joy being restored.
Think about it: if someone pulled you out of quicksand when you had lost all hope, you’d be overflowing with gratitude. You’d want to tell everyone who saved you! That’s what praise is—it’s our testimony to the One who lifted us out of despair.
When God brings us from the pit to praise, our story becomes a beacon of hope for others. People are drawn to stories of redemption, because they remind them that if God can do it for you—He can do it for them too.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, I cry out to You in my moments of despair and defeat. You have lifted me up so many times, set me on solid ground, and restored my joy. Thank You for being my rescuer and my rock. Help me to keep singing my song of praise, so others may see Your goodness and put their trust in You. Amen.
