WHAT A BLESSED LIFE LOOKS LIKE

ree

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Praise the Lord! How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying his commands. Their children will be successful everywhere; an entire generation of godly people will be blessed. They themselves will be wealthy, and their good deeds will last forever. Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous. Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly. Such people will not be overcome by evil. Those who are righteous will be long remembered. They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them. They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly. They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor.”

Psalm 112:1–9 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

This psalm gives a powerful picture of what a life blessed by God looks like. It reveals that the fear of the Lord—meaning reverence, respect, and obedience—sets in motion a chain of blessings that impact every area of life.

1. Fearing God Means Obeying God

“The one who fears the Lord… delights in obeying His commands.”

To fear God doesn’t mean to live terrified of Him; it means to live in awe of Him. When we respect and revere the Lord, obedience flows naturally.

I grew up in a home where my parents were loving but had clear expectations. My respect for them made me want to obey—not because I was afraid of punishment, but because I valued who they were. In the same way, our obedience to God comes from love and reverence for who He is.

2. Fearing God Impacts Generations

“Their children will be successful everywhere; an entire generation of godly people will be blessed.”

Our obedience doesn’t just bless us—it influences our children and grandchildren. When we walk in the fear of the Lord, we create a spiritual path that makes it easier for the next generation to follow God.

While every person must make their own choice to serve Him, our faithfulness leaves a legacy that points them toward righteousness.

3. Those Who Fear God Are Generous and Fair

“Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly.”

A person who truly fears God reflects His character in everyday life. We should be known as people who are generous, compassionate, and fair—especially in our dealings with others. Integrity and kindness are marks of a godly life.

4. Those Who Fear God Are Confident and Fearless

“They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them.”

When we fear the Lord, we don’t have to fear anything else. Our confidence comes from knowing that God is our Provider, Protector, and Defender. He surrounds us with His presence and commissions His angels to watch over us.

We can face uncertainty and opposition without fear because “greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.”

Reflection Questions:

• Am I walking in obedience to God’s Word?

• Is my life leaving a positive spiritual impact on future generations?

• Do generosity and fairness mark the way I treat others?

• Am I living with confidence and trust in the Lord instead of fear?

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, I need Your help every day. Show me any area of my life that isn’t aligned with Your will. Empower me to walk in obedience, to live generously and fairly, and to face life’s challenges with confidence and boldness. Thank You for blessing my life and my family as I walk in the fear of the Lord. Amen.
