PRAYERS THAT PLEASE GOD

And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know that he will give us what we ask for.

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Have you ever wondered how to pray about a situation? John teaches us that God hears our requests when we ask for anything that "pleases him." If our request pleases God, then He will give us what we ask for. I read a story some time ago about a group of bank robbers who actually prayed and asked God to protect them and guide them as they went out to robs banks. Eventually they were caught, and a couple were shot and seriously injured. Did God fail to answer their prayers? Obviously God was not bound to answer their prayers because what they asked for was not pleasing to God. They were violating God's command not to steal or covet. Cindy and I have been married at this writing for almost forty years. I have a pretty good sense of what pleases her and what doesn't. I try to make decisions based on what I think she will like--I still miss it at times but I'm a lot better than I was thirty years ago. The more time you spend with someone the more you know what they like. The more time we spend with God in His Word and with the Holy Spirit in prayer, meditation, and worship the more we will know what pleases God. Once we know what pleases God, we understand better how to pray. Once we know what pleases God, our prayers become incredibly productive because we are verbalizing that which God desires. Are there prayers you are praying that would not please God? I am very thankful for unanswered prayers. There are some prayers I prayed in the past that God knew were wrong for my life.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, I ask You to direct my prayers. Help me to know God better than ever before so that I can ask for things that would please God.
