GOD’S GOODNESS OVER OUR LIVES

ree

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“The Lord is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble? When evil people come to devour me, when my enemies and foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not be afraid. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident. The one thing I ask of the Lord— the thing I seek most— is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, delighting in the Lord’s perfections and meditating in his Temple. For he will conceal me there when troubles come; he will hide me in his sanctuary. He will place me out of reach on a high rock.”

Psalms 27:1-5 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

This passage in Psalm twenty-seven reminds us of a very real tension in life: we will face battles, but we are not left defenseless. David doesn’t sugarcoat reality—he speaks openly about enemies, attackers, and even being surrounded by armies. Yet in the middle of that, his confidence in God shines through.

1. Make God Your Fortress

David’s first instinct was not to lash out at his enemies or blame God for his troubles. Instead, he ran toward God as his safe place. When life presses in—whether through unfair treatment, spiritual attacks, or personal struggles—we have the same choice: either let fear rule us, or let God shelter us.

Notice how David says, “Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident.” That kind of confidence isn’t denial of pain, but a declaration of trust. The more we worship and seek God’s presence, the bigger He becomes in our eyes and the smaller our problems appear. Worship doesn’t always change our circumstances, but it changes us in the middle of them.

2. Declare God’s Goodness

David didn’t dwell on the strength of his enemies—he kept rehearsing the strength of his God. He said, “He will conceal me…He will hide me…He will place me on a high rock.”

That’s a lesson for us too: our words matter. Fear talks about the problem, but faith talks about God’s power. When we declare God’s goodness, we remind our souls—and our enemies—who is really in control. Speaking out His protection and provision doesn’t just encourage us; it builds our faith for the next battle.

Takeaway:

God never promised us a life free from trouble, but He did promise His presence in the middle of it. Like David, we can learn to run to God as our fortress and to declare His goodness over our lives. We may not win every fight the way we expect, but when we keep showing up with faith and trust, God fights for us.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, help me to run to You first in every struggle. Remind me of Your protection when I feel weak and give me words of faith to declare Your goodness over my life. Strengthen my heart to remain confident in You, no matter the battle.
