WHAT IS GOD ASKING OF YOU?

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.”

Luke 1:38 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

The power of saying “yes” to God!

It’s easy to read right past this moment between Mary and the angel. The angel announces the unthinkable: You will carry the Son of God.

For a young woman engaged to be married, this news was anything but simple. Life had been predictable, peaceful, and normal—until the angel arrived. Suddenly her thoughts must have been swirling. The shame of becoming pregnant before marriage. The fear of trying to explain the angelic encounter. The uncertainty of how Joseph would react.

Questions. Fears. Confusion.

And here’s something worth reflecting on—Mary could have said no.

God never forces His will on us. He invites, He calls, He prompts… but He never coerces. She had a choice that day.

What if she had said, “No thanks”? Would God have needed a plan B?

Instead, Mary offered a simple, surrendered, “I am the Lord’s servant.” That was her “yes.” I believe her willingness didn’t start in this moment—it began long before, as she lived a life already postured toward God.

When I look back at my own journey, I can see moments where God directed my steps in surprising ways. Doors opened I didn’t push. Opportunities appeared I never saw coming. As a teenager I decided to say “yes” to Jesus as Lord—meaning whatever He wanted, I would trust Him with.

Have I always found it easy? No. Leaving the church I pastored for 37 years was one of the hardest steps of obedience in my life. Some called it a blind leap of faith. For me, it was simply walking out His calling.

God’s road is rarely the easy road. It’s seldom smooth or predictable. But when you know you’re following Him, you learn to navigate the bumps with confidence.

What is God asking of you this Christmas season?

Is it time to pursue a new career path?

Time to grow through further education?

Time to step into a ministry opportunity?

Time to align your finances with His priorities?

Time to invest more deeply in your marriage or family?

What is He asking?

Will you say “yes”?

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, help me today to say yes to You. Give me the courage to surrender my will to Yours and to fully embrace Your plans for my life. Amen.
