PERFECTION IN AN IMPERFECT WORLD

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.”
Luke 2:7 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
When we hear the Christmas story, the innkeeper often becomes the villain—the one who turned away a young, pregnant woman in her moment of need.
But perhaps we’ve misunderstood him.
Because of a Roman decree, Bethlehem was overflowing with travelers. Every room was taken. Yet in the middle of the chaos, this innkeeper still found space for Mary and Joseph. It wasn’t ideal, but it was available.
The stable wasn’t perfect. It likely smelled like a barn. It was messy and uncomfortable. Still, it was safe. It offered shelter from the cold night air, protection from danger, and enough privacy for a child to be born.
And this is where God chose for His Son to enter the world.
A stable.
A manger.
An imperfect setting for a perfect Savior.
This probably wasn’t Mary and Joseph’s dream. Parents imagine a warm room, a clean crib, and everything just right. I remember how much time and effort went into preparing a nursery—choosing paint colors, arranging furniture, even refinishing a piece so it would be perfect.
Yet God did not wait for perfection. He entered the world through a place that reflected the reality of humanity—broken, unfinished, and messy.
That’s the message of the manger.
God is willing to come into the mess of our lives. He doesn’t wait until everything is cleaned up before He shows up. He comes first—and then He begins the work of restoration.
Some people keep Jesus at a distance, thinking they need to fix everything before inviting Him in. But Christmas reminds us that Jesus is not afraid of our mess. He steps right into it.
In the busyness of this season, make room for Him. Invite Jesus into the places of hurt, frustration, failure, and pain. Let Him bring forgiveness, freedom, healing, and hope.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I need You this Christmas. Come into my mess and make me whole. Bring Your forgiveness, freedom, healing, and hope. Restore my life today.
