OUR EVERLASTING GOD

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
Today we focus on the third title Isaiah gives to Jesus: Mighty God.
Isaiah expands this picture later when he writes:
“Have you never heard? Have you never understood?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
He gives power to the weak
and strength to the powerless.
Even youths will become weak and tired,
and young men will fall in exhaustion.
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.”
Isaiah 40:28–31 NLT
This Mighty God revealed in Jesus is the One who strengthened Paul to declare, “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13, NLT). What a remarkable way to approach life—knowing the Mighty God lives within us and equips us to face whatever comes.
Paul also learned that God’s grace was more than enough. The Lord reminded him, “My power works best in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9, NLT). When we come to the end of ourselves, God’s strength shines the brightest.
Yet so often we miss seeing His power because we insist on relying on our own. My natural impulse is to fix things—to work harder or smarter to make everything right. While diligence is a virtue, I’ve learned the greater strength comes from spending time with the Mighty God, allowing Him to guide my thoughts, redirect my plans, and renew my heart.
When we make space for Him each day—sometimes more than once—we find our strength renewed, our courage restored, and our steps steadied.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, help me recognize the strength available to me through the Lord Jesus. Teach me to seek Your help first. Give me courage to move forward even when my own resources feel limited or exhausted. Fill me again with the power of our Mighty God. Amen.
