PEACE WITH GOD

ree

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us.

The government will rest on his shoulders.

And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Isaiah 9:6 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Today we turn our attention to Isaiah’s description of Jesus as the Prince of Peace.

When I was a young teen, my older sister and I rarely missed the Miss America pageant. One question almost always arose: “What is your one dream for the world?” And year after year the most common answer was “world peace.”

Every generation longs for peace, yet Jesus told us there would always be wars and rumors of wars (Matthew 24:6). Even so, He also promised to give us a peace unlike anything the world can offer.

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”— John 14:27 NLT

If the world didn’t give us this peace, then the world can’t take it away. For those who follow Christ, peace isn’t tied to calm circumstances—it’s rooted in a person: the Prince of Peace.

At His birth, the angels announced to the shepherds,

“Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.”

— Luke 2:14 NLT

Ironically, Jesus was born during anything but peaceful times. Israel lived under Roman rule, lacked self-governance, and even its religious leaders were divided. Yet into that environment, Jesus came to bring peace—and He still does today.

1. Jesus Gives Us Peace With God

This was His first mission. Our sin had broken our relationship with the Father, but Jesus took our sin upon Himself at the cross and paid the price for our restoration. Through Him, we now have peace with God.

2. Jesus Gives Us Peace Within Ourselves

Because of Jesus, there is no condemnation. We don’t have to live weighed down by guilt, shame, or regret. He brings peace to our hearts and minds.

3. Jesus Gives Us Peace With Others

The Prince of Peace also restores relationships. He brings truth, healing, and reconciliation where there has been conflict, division, or hurt.

Where do you need peace this Christmas season?

Why not ask the Prince of Peace to place His gift of peace in that very place?

TODAY’S PRAYER

Lord Jesus, help me receive Your gift of peace today. Teach me to walk in peace with God, with myself, and with others. Amen.
