GOD WITH US

ree

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Look! The virgin will conceive a child!  She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’”

Matthew 1:23 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

When Matthew recorded the birth of Jesus, he reached back centuries to quote the prophet Isaiah. This title—Immanuel—was so important that both Isaiah 7:14 and 8:8,10 highlight it. It declares that the baby in the manger is no ordinary child. He is “God with us.”

Most world religions describe humanity’s search for God—through discipline, effort, or enlightenment. But the message of Christmas is the opposite: God came searching for us. The Creator stepped into His creation, wrapped Himself in human flesh, and revealed His heart and nature in a way we could see, hear, and understand.

In a world filled with chaos, confusion, and crisis, Jesus still comes as “God with us.” He wants us to know we are never on our own. God didn’t create the world and then leave us to navigate life by ourselves. He chose to enter our world personally, fully, and lovingly.

Christmas reminds us that we are not abandoned.

We are not forgotten.

We are not alone.

God is with us—Immanuel.

The beloved Christmas hymn Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, written by Charles Wesley in 1739, captures this truth beautifully:

Christ by highest heaven adored;

Christ the everlasting Lord!

Late in time behold Him come,

Offspring of the virgin’s womb:

Veiled in flesh the Godhead see;

Hail th’ Incarnate Deity!

Pleased as man with men to dwell,

Jesus our Emmanuel.

Today is a good day to pause and reflect on the meaning of that name: God with us. Whatever you face, you face it with Him.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank You for coming as my Immanuel. Thank You for being God with me today. Help me lean into Your presence in everything I do.
