OUR “TREE OF LIFE”

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Then the Lord God said, “Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!” So the Lord God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made. After sending them out, the Lord God stationed mighty cherubim to the east of the Garden of Eden. And he placed a flaming sword that flashed back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

Genesis 3:22-24 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Our passage today comes the opening story of Adam and Eve sinning in the Garden of Eden. They chose to eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in rebellion against God’s specific instruction. But there was another tree in the garden—the Tree of Life. Because of man’s sin there was consequences. One of those consequences was removal from the Garden of Eden.

Man was not allowed to eat from the Tree of Life after he sinned. Death was now a part of the human equation.

But Jesus came to earth to die on another tree. On Golgotha Jesus hung on a tree to pay for the sins of humanity. Through the death of Jesus man has been given the gift of life. The life we have in Jesus is our return ticket to the garden God intended for man to enjoy.

We can daily eat of the Tree of Life and enjoy God’s life. I believe it takes effort on our part to enjoy the fullness of life that God has for us. Our lives must be lived in alignment with God’s truth if we want to enjoy the best life.

A few months back I hit a curb in my truck and knocked my front end out of alignment. The truck was pulling hard to one side, and I had to work to get keep it driving properly on the road. It cost me over $100 to get it back into alignment so it would drive correctly.

If there are things in our lives that are pulling us away from God perhaps it is time to inspect our alignment. If we are being pulled into temptation perhaps, we need to invite the Holy Spirit to realign our hearts.

I believe the Spirit of God, the family of God, and the Word of God are alignment tools for our spirit life.  We need to employee all three to live the best life.

I believe we need to visit the “Tree of Life” each day to live this best life. We visit this tree every time we study God’s Word.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit help me to eat from the Tree of Life every day. Help me to keep my life in alignment with You.
