MORE THAN A CONQUEROR

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.

Colossians 1:15-17 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

There is a lot to chew on in this passage from the apostle Paul. He begins by letting us know “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.” In the gospel of John, chapter 14, Jesus tells Philip that if they have seen Him, they have seen the Father.

When we study the life of Jesus in the New Testament, we discover God’s interaction with humanity. We discover the compassion of our Heavenly Father. We discover His heart for people and dislike for anyone who tries to block people from a personal relationship with Father God.

Paul also tells us that Jesus existed in eternity with Father God. It was Jesus Who served as the creative force of the Triune Godhead because all things were created “through him.” Everything was created through Him and for Him. He holds all things together.

We need to understand that Jesus was not just a good teacher, miracle worker, prophet, or role model. Jesus was and is the eternal Son of God. He is the all-powerful creator.

Another insight we get in this passage is the existence of “thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.” Just as there are regional kingdoms on earth with various rulers, there seems to be some sort of structure of spiritual authority in the unseen world. Jesus reigns as sovereign Lord over all authorities. We do not have to fear demonic authorities or principalities because Jesus is over them all.

When we celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus, we remember that He is still in charge. He is the King of all kings and Lord of all lords. When Jesus is in control of my life, I am more than a conqueror over whatever may come against me. I have the Greater One living in me.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit please help me remember today that Jesus is in charge. Even when life looks chaotic Jesus is in charge. Jesus is living in me, and He makes me more than a conqueror.
