COME TAKE THE RISK

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Then Peter called to him, ‘Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.’

‘Yes, come,’ Jesus said.

So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. ‘Save me, Lord!’ he shouted.”

Matthew 14:28–30 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

After feeding the five thousand, Jesus sends His disciples across the lake. Later that night, in the middle of a raging storm, Jesus walks on the water to meet them.

When the disciples see Him, they’re terrified. They think they’re seeing a ghost — surely death is near. But through the howling wind, they hear a voice: “Take courage. It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

Peter, always the bold one, speaks up: “Lord, if it’s really You, tell me to come to You on the water.”

Honestly, that probably wouldn’t have been my first request. I think I would have said, “Lord, stop the storm!” But Peter — true to form — speaks before fully thinking it through.

And Jesus says one word: “Come.”

So, Peter does it. He steps out of the boat. And he walks on water.

We often rush to the part where Peter sinks but pause for a moment —Peter walked on water.

No one else even got out of the boat.

Ignorance? Boldness? Pure faith? Whatever the mix, Peter was the only one willing to leave the safety of the boat and move toward Jesus, even when it seemed crazy.

Maybe Peter thought:

“Better to be with Jesus on the water than without Him in a sinking boat.”

He risked it all to be where Jesus was.

Pastor A.W. Tozer once said:

“God is looking for people through whom He can do the impossible. What a pity we plan only things we can do by ourselves.”

What would it look like for you to “walk on water”? What step of faith is Jesus calling you to take — one that feels totally impossible?

Of course, we must be sure it’s God who’s calling. It can’t be our ego, pride, or self-confidence that makes us step out. It must be faith — true trust in His voice.

If there’s breath in our lungs, there are still new steps of faith to take. Don’t let your story be only about past risks and old miracles.

God is still calling you. He’s still saying, “Come.”

May we be ready to walk on water — whenever He calls.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, help me hear Your voice above all the noise. Give me courage to leave behind what feels safe, and step into the unknown where You are working. Make me a water-walker, today and every day.
