JESUS IS OUR WONDERFUL COUNSELOR

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Perhaps we rush too quickly through the Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah. We see Isaiah give Him the titles of Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace and we rush through with little thought. Perhaps the familiar causes us to miss the richness of these titles.

Let’s pause and think about Jesus being our Wonderful Counselor. Just this week I was reading about the mental health struggles all around us. Times of isolation, fear of the unknown, and anxiety about the future have caused many to struggle. The normal support systems seem broken for many.

Into our world comes our Wonderful Counselor. God with us, Jesus comes to give us a listening ear and fill us with hope.

I have had the privilege of working with several counselors in my lifetime. Each one was used at a specific time to help me process difficult circumstances in my life. It was amazing the insight I gained through an outside set of eyes looking at my life. Perhaps one of the best helps was the self-awareness. Counselors have helped me see my blind spots.

One thing I learned earlier in the process was the importance of honesty. If I wasn’t completely honest with the counselor, they were limited in their ability to help.

The same is true in our relationship with Jesus. We must be honest about our struggles and sins. We must acknowledge our failures, fear, and weaknesses. If we want help, we must be honest.

This Christmas season, let’s welcome the Wonderful Counselor into our lives. We all need a fresh perspective.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Lord Jesus, I welcome You as my Wonderful Counselor. I invite You to speak into my life. Help me see the areas that need adjustment and improvement. Give me the courage to be honest with You and listen to You.
