WALK OR ASSOCIATE

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.”

Proverbs 13:20 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

Dr. Emily Falk, a leading researcher at the University of Pennsylvania, has found that our social networks and peer groups significantly influence our decisions. Her research shows that we are not only shaped by what we hear, but who we hear it from and how our brains process that social connection.

The Bible recognized this truth long before modern science did. Proverbs 13:20 reminds us that the people we spend time with will either make us wiser or pull us into trouble. Wisdom, it turns out, is not just taught—it’s caught.

I’ve made it a personal rule to be in rooms where I’m not the smartest person in the room. I intentionally seek out people who know more than I do, who challenge me, and who can help me grow. After all, I don’t get any smarter listening to myself!

As parents, we’re often careful about who our kids spend time with because we know their friends will shape their values and choices. But that same principle doesn’t stop when we become adults. We should still be intentional about surrounding ourselves with people who sharpen us and push us toward wisdom.

In today’s world, our “circle” can extend far beyond physical relationships. Through podcasts, books, and social media, we can learn from people who inspire us, challenge our thinking, and deepen our faith. I have certain speakers I listen to regularly, authors whose books I always read, and voices on social media that motivate me to live better.

So, who is speaking into your life? Who are you allowing to shape the person you are becoming?

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, help me to choose wisely the people who influence my life. Give me discernment to listen to voices that lead me closer to You and help me be intentional about surrounding myself with wisdom.
