MY HEART LONGS FOR GOD

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You satisfy me more than the richest feast. I will praise you with songs of joy.”
Psalms 63:1‑5 NLT
TODAY’S THOUGHT
David’s words capture a profound longing—a thirst for God that goes beyond anything else in life. This is not a casual or fleeting desire; it is an earnest pursuit of God Himself.
I was reminded of this truth recently in a simple, everyday way. I have a routine of walking about two miles each morning. One day, my schedule delayed me until around noon, and the Texas sun was relentless. Within the first mile, my clothes were soaked with sweat. By the time I returned home, I went straight for a large, cold bottle of sports drink—and it didn’t last long. I drank every drop.
That is the image David gives us when he says, “My soul thirsts for you.” Just as my body craved refreshment after exertion, our souls crave God when we are spiritually weary or thirsty.
David’s life was full of highs and lows. As a young man, he defeated Goliath. He served in King Saul’s house, only to spend 13 years fleeing for his life. He eventually led part of the kingdom before becoming king at age 37. Throughout these experiences—victories, failures, temptations, and sin—David’s heart remained drawn to God. Even when he fell, he repented and returned to seek God’s presence.
The key to David’s enduring victories, even amid personal failure, was his deep desire to know God. He was not perfect, but his heart was fully devoted to an intimate relationship with the Lord.
We live in a world full of distractions—wealth, popularity, achievements, and countless things clamoring for our attention. Yet, deep within every human heart is a longing for God. Nothing else can truly satisfy.
TODAY’S PRAYER
Holy Spirit, I want to know You. I want to understand Your purposes and follow Your plans for my life. Help me direct my desires to You, for nothing else will satisfy the deepest longings of my soul.
