INSTRUCTION FOR THE WISE

ree

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.”

Proverbs 19:20 NLT

TODAY’S THOUGHT

I was told early in my leadership journey that there are two main ways to learn: you can learn from the mistakes of others, or you can learn from your own. The wise choose the first.

Unfortunately, some people are so hard-headed that they refuse to listen to anyone. They think they know better and end up repeating the same failures others have already lived through. If we don’t learn from others’ mistakes, we’re destined to make them ourselves. No one is smart enough to get through life without mistakes—but many of them could be avoided if we simply listened to wise counsel.

We live in a time of incredible opportunity to learn. Books, podcasts, and online teachings give us access to people we may never meet in person. But wisdom requires discernment—not every voice is worth following. We must choose carefully who we listen to.

I’ve learned that we can gain something from almost anyone, even those whose religious or political views differ from ours. However, most of my learning comes from those who share my values and faith—people whose wisdom is rooted in God’s truth.

Let’s make it our goal to pursue wisdom daily. Why repeat the same old mistakes others have already made when we can learn from them and make new ones of our own?

TODAY’S PRAYER

Holy Spirit, help me stay humble and teachable. Give me discernment to know who to listen to and surround me with people whose wisdom comes from You. Teach me through their experience so I can walk wisely all the days of my life.
